CALLING ALL SINGERS & CHOIRS!
An opportunity to sing with a large choir in Rochester Cathedral October 26th 2019!
The award-winning Absolute Gospel Company is presenting its new musical The King is Coming in Rochester Cathedral on Saturday 26th October 2019. This is a multi-media musical featuring music, narration, high quality visuals and dance. We are inviting choirs and singers from the Rochester and Medway Diocese of all denominations to join us for a ‘big sing’ of this musical. We welcome existing choirs, large or small, or groups of singers coming together just for this project.
It is an open invitation which does not require any auditions, nor the ability to read music. Just an undertaking to learn the music to a good standard, using the rehearsal CDs and sheet music, ready for performance on the day.
Alternatively, anyone is welcome to come and rehearse with us in Tonbridge on Tuesday evenings beginning May 7th 19:30 – 21:00 at St John’s Church Hildenborough (Family Room), Post Code TN11 9HN.
‘The King is coming’ is the latest musical in a succession of successful musicals dealing with prophetic subjects. Firmly rooted in Scripture it features an inter-denominational choir, soloist, dancers, narrators and stunning visual effects. The musical lasts approximately 2 hours, including an interval.
What is in the Music Pack?
The vision is to send out ‘teaching packs’ of the musical to choir leaders and individual singers to allow them to practise the choir songs. The teaching pack consists of a DVD (sent in post) and CD of the musical (professionally recorded), together with printed sheet music of the vocal parts ready for duplication (for rehearsal use only, not for resale). Also included are separate rehearsal CDs for the 4 individual vocal parts which are: 1st soprano, 2nd soprano, alto and bass. A further CD of the full choir mix of all the vocal lines is also in the pack. All CDs feature studio recorded backing tracks. The entire teaching pack, with postage and packing will cost £30. This can be obtained by using any of the contacts below. Only one pack is needed per choir/group of singers. The sheet music and rehearsal CD may be duplicated for rehearsal purposes only (not for resale). We just ask for a contribution of £10 per person to take part in the musical, which will go towards the considerable costs of hiring the Cathedral and the technical equipment.
We will all come together in Rochester Cathedral on the day (Oct 26th) to rehearse in the afternoon and then present the musical in the evening. We are looking for a choir of at least 200, maybe more, to sing together and celebrate the theme that the King is coming!
We do not envisage any extra rehearsals other than on the day, leaving it to individual choir leaders and singers to arrange their own schedule. There are 11 choir songs arranged for sopranos (1st and 2nd), altos and basses. We recommend at least 2 months of weekly rehearsals to learn the music (less time if singers are able to read music notation). On the DVD of the production you will notice the choir is singing from memory. We are not insisting on this for the Rochester performance. Singers may use sheet music in black folders.
The King is Coming is the latest in a long line of musicals that the Company has presented locally, further afield in England and abroad in Israel and the United States. Its work has also been featured on television and radio.
